Portal de ses Taules stands at the main entrance to Eivissa’s fortified old town, Dalt Vila, between the bastions of Sant Joan and Santa Llúcia. Built in 1585, the Renaissance gateway leads toward Puig de Vila and the narrow historic streets within the walls. Dalt Vila has formed part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.

Headless Roman statue replicas flank the entrance, while King Philip II’s coat of arms appears above it. A second plaque describes his dominions and royal shield, adding detail to the fortified façade. The surrounding defences protected roughly ten hectares with an 1,800-metre perimeter, while walls around two metres thick resisted attacks from invaders and pirates. A moat and drawbridge once guarded the passage, before a permanent bridge replaced the drawbridge in the early twentieth century.

Beyond the entrance, the pati d’armes opens into an armoury courtyard where musicians, residents and visitors gather among the historic architecture. The original Roman statues discovered during construction now remain in Ibiza Archaeological Museum, leaving their replicas to watch over the gateway.
