Baluard de Santa Tecla rises at the highest point of Dalt Vila, Eivissa’s historic upper town. From the eastern side of the cathedral, you can look across the city, port, and surrounding landscape. Local stone gives the bastion and Renaissance walls a lasting presence above Eivissa.

Construction began in 1555 under the Italian military engineer Giovanni Battista Calvi. Six original bastions protected the upper town, including Santa Tecla, Sant Bernat, Sant Jordi, Sant Jaume, Sant Pere, and Sant Joan. Their angular forms created overlapping fields of fire against Ottoman and pirate attacks across the Mediterranean. An additional bastion joined the fortifications at Puig de Santa Llúcia in 1575.

A fortified chamber inside the bastion partly houses the Archaeological Museum of Eivissa and Formentera. Ancient ceramics and amphorae trace the Pityusic Islands from antiquity to the Catalan conquest. Nearby, the old fish market serves as another viewpoint over the lower city, port, and modern expansion. From here, the complete wall circuit connects military architecture with museums, historic buildings, and open views.
