In Eindhoven, Twee Figuren stands above the Demer as a bronze and terrazzo sculpture group by Italian artist Mario Negri. Negri places elongated figures on a high pedestal. Seen from the Piazza near the Bijenkorf, the group forms a family scene against the colourful department-store façade. Open spaces separate the figures from the sky. From the opposite side, the apparent canopy reveals itself as the back of a fourth figure balancing the composition. The silhouettes change as you move around them.

Negri created the group between 1969 and 1970 within an urban project shaped with architect Gio Ponti. The Piazza combines art, architecture and city space. Around the Bijenkorf and shopping gallery, the ensemble includes pink terrazzo seating elements with planters called dragoni. Colourful shields complete the surrounding design. Near the Bijenkorf entrance, another Negri work shows a seated figure beside a fragmentary companion. That group appears larger and more block-like. Together, the works bring Negri’s post-cubist language into Eindhoven’s centre, where the Piazza serves as a meeting place. Bronze and terrazzo give the ensemble contrasting surfaces. From a distance, the figures read against the façade, while closer views reveal their silhouettes. Air and sky remain part of Negri’s composition.
