Rheinterrasse stands in Düsseldorf as an architectural venue shaped by brick expressionism and neoclassical forms. Wilhelm Kreis designed the building for the GeSoLei exhibition. Construction between 1924 and 1926 combined brick walls with steel-reinforced concrete ceilings and supporting beams. The Rheingoldsaal anchors the building’s interior design. Its large hall carries a shell-shaped dome, while flying buttresses and street-side towers strengthen the façade. Plane trees line the Rhine-facing terrace. The concave rear façade joins riverbank walls, ramps, parks, terraces, and staircases within a connected open-space composition. Tuff and limestone strips frame its windows. The central window axes echo geometric framing found at the Kunstmuseum and NRW-Forum in the Ehrenhof. Helmut Hentrich added the Radschlägersaal in 1994. Its steel skeleton and broad glass surfaces bring a later construction language into the historic building. The building received monument protection in 1982. The venue provides conference technology and air conditioning for congresses, concerts, and corporate events in its historic rooms. The venue is wheelchair accessible for visitors.
