Dankeskirche stands in Düsseldorf’s Benrath district as an evangelical church within the Benrath/Hassels parish. It belongs to the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland. Construction began with the foundation stone laid in 1914, and the church was inaugurated the following year. Architect Friedrich Pützer led the church’s design. Round-arched nave windows bring Otto Linnemann’s 1915 glasswork into the interior. Linnemann also designed three rectangular windows for the Hall of Honor beneath the tower in 1925. The tower combines a square base, an octagonal belfry, and a lantern. Its clock has 2.25-metre dials on three sides. Korfhage u. Söhne supplied the clock in 1914, and its mechanism became electric in 1970. Gilded rods form the clock’s hands above the dials. The tower houses a four-bell chime cast around 1957 by Rincker in Sinn, Hesse. The Karl Schuke organ dates from 1967. It sits above the pulpit altar at the front of the altar area, recalling an eighteenth-century Lutheran arrangement. The instrument has twenty-three registers, two manuals, and a pedal. Mechanical playing action and electric stop action govern the organ, which received its last overhaul in 2011.
