Begerburg is a nineteenth-century villa in Dölzschen, Dresden, whose neo-Gothic design recalls a medieval castle. It stands on a rocky outcrop above the Weißeritztal. The building is listed as a cultural monument in Dresden and forms a distinctive architectural landmark. Its story begins with Carlsburg, a wooden pleasure house. Storms and wars destroyed the earlier structures, including the later stone replacement. The site then became a viewing platform with a rondel and benches. Johann Gottlieb Beger later changed the site's course. The Dölzschen quarry owner commissioned architect Theodor Lehnert to design the present villa in neo-Gothic style. Theodor Lehnert shaped its architecture with medieval castle elements. The villa originally contained a restaurant, several dining rooms, a coffee salon, and an observation platform. A food lift connected the dining rooms with the kitchen. Its interiors used wood imitations and glazes to create a medieval appearance. A tragic accident ended its use as a guesthouse. Later uses included a residence, youth centre, cardboard factory, library, and storage space. Local protests prevented demolition plans when the building fell into poor condition. The building serves residential purposes, while its castle-like form preserves the site's architectural identity.
