Südbad is an indoor swimming pool in Dortmund city centre, combining post-war architecture with competitive and recreational swimming. It opened as Dortmund’s first post-war indoor pool.

The building uses a reinforced-concrete structure and a fully glazed eastern façade, giving its exterior a clear architectural character. A mosaic wall by Harry Fränkel marks the interior.

The pool includes a 50-metre stainless-steel basin with eight lanes for organised swimming and school sports. A 10-metre diving tower serves as another defining feature.

A spectator stand holds up to 500 people, while the venue has hosted major swimming competitions. The renovation removed most of the original basement shower and bathing cabins.

Several basement cabins remain in their original state. Südbad also carries protected-monument status and provides wheelchair access, linking heritage with public use.

The site has welcomed Olympic trials, German championships, and European deaf swimming championships. Südbad brings structure, sport, and historic details together in central Dortmund.
