Museum 3. Dimension occupies Dinkelsbühl’s historic town mill in Bavaria, a fourteenth-century fortification with battlements and a moat. Across four floors, stereoscopic art turns flat images into scenes with apparent depth.

Founded by Gerhard Otto Stief in 1987, the collection brings together anaglyph images, anamorphoses, holograms and Magic Eye pictures. Optical illusions and impossible figures sit alongside mathematical puzzles and experiments in mechanics, acoustics and optics, with anaglyph glasses available for viewing. The museum first opened in Nördlinger Tor before moving into the renovated mill, whose rear section has housed the Dinkelsbühl Boys’ Band since 2013.

Holograms, depth illusions and family-friendly experiments share space inside a building that once formed part of the town’s defences.
