P547 Sehested lies in Copenhagen’s Holmen area as a preserved torpedo missile boat and floating Cold War museum. Her 46-metre hull sits among the frigate Peder Skram and submarine Sælen. Holmen served as the Royal Danish Navy’s main shipyard and anchorage from 1690 to 1993.

Built at Frederikshavn Værft, the vessel joined the ten-ship Willemoes class, designed with Lürssen and Danish naval authorities. Her keel was laid in 1976, and she entered service in 1978. Three Rolls-Royce Proteus gas turbines gave her 40 knots, while two diesel engines allowed 12-knot cruising. Twenty-five crew operated wire-guided torpedoes, Harpoon missiles, a 76-millimetre gun, sensors, and mine-laying equipment. She served Denmark and NATO during Cold War naval defence before leaving service in 2000.

The 260-tonne craft carried weaponry considered comparable to a Second World War destroyer’s, despite its compact size. Her 7.4-metre beam and 2.45-metre draft show how much equipment the hull contained. Admiral Christen Thomesen Sehested, who lived from 1664 to 1736, provided the vessel’s namesake and served as the first commander of Denmark’s naval cadet academy.
