St. Maria Lyskirchen is a Romanesque church in Cologne, with a three-aisled basilica and elevated eastern choir. Its northern tower is complete, while the southern tower remains unfinished.

The present form emerged between 1198 and 1225, after earlier buildings served the riverside community. A high-water mark on the west façade records the Rhine flood of 1784. The ornate west portal combines a blind arch with a surrounding garland. Inside, thirteenth-century frescoes unfold along the central nave in paired biblical scenes. Old Testament stories line the northern wall, while related New Testament scenes appear opposite.

The Schiffermadonna, a wooden statue from 1420, recalls the church’s connection with sailors and fishermen. Side chapels contain late-thirteenth-century frescoes showing Saint Nicholas of Myra and Saint Catherine of Alexandria. Stained-glass windows bring coloured, subdued light into the interior. A high altar by Elmar Hillebrand dates from the 1950s and replaced an earlier Baroque altar. The church, sacristy and sexton’s house are protected monuments.
