Delville Wood Memorial stands in Cape Town’s Company’s Garden, presenting a replica of the French monument. Its centre is an octagonal stone tempietto beneath Alfred Turner’s bronze Brotherhood. Castor and Pollux represent unity between British and Boer soldiers within the sculpture.

The site commemorates more than two thousand South African soldiers who died during a five-day World War I battle. The original monument in Delville Wood, France, carries Sir Herbert Baker’s design. The statue of Major General Henry Lukin recalls the commander of South African forces there.

The grounds include a World War I artillery gun honouring fallen artillery members, alongside reflecting pools and footpaths. Extended inscriptions also commemorate South Africans who fought in later wars across the landscaped grounds.
