The Chapelle de la Trinité stands on Saint-Honorat Island, among the Lérins Islands in Cannes Bay. Historic chapels still stand around Lérins Abbey on Saint-Honorat Island.

The chapel’s origins remain uncertain, because surviving documents do not establish its construction date. Its architecture suggests early medieval building phases.

The short nave has a barrel vault, while the triconch choir carries a dome on pendentives. The chapel’s dome has an unusual elliptical shape.

Ancient fragments form the pillars supporting the triumphal arch between the nave and choir. Historians compare the dome with Byzantine architectural examples.

Archaeological excavations found a cistern, a small building foundation, and cemetery graves beside the chapel. Later restoration removed additions associated with the building’s military use.

Spanish troops converted the chapel into a small fort, leaving changes for later restoration. The island preserves olive trees and Aleppo pines.

Paths through Saint-Honorat connect the chapel with Lérins Abbey, monastic ruins, and other historic structures. Monks maintain traditions of vines, wine, and liqueurs.

Honorat and Caprais established an early Christian monastic presence on the island. The island already appeared in Roman-era writing.
