The Podmaniczky–Vigyázó Mansion presents Baroque architecture and sturdy walls in Hungary. Baron Sándor Bojanovszky built it in the 1760s.

Its fields became some of Hungary’s earliest places for growing potatoes. The Podmaniczky family later made the mansion their home.

During the 1838 flood, the building sheltered neighbors escaping the rising water. A neobaroque courtyard added another architectural layer.

After Vigyázó Sándor’s death, ownership passed to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences amid inheritance disputes. War and looting damaged its interiors.

State ownership later changed the mansion into a school and children’s home, while its Baroque features deteriorated. Fire and abandonment then left the building in serious decline.

Private reconstruction after 2002 gradually restored activity to the property and brought new uses to its side wings. Cafés now occupy those wings.

The main building reopened as a venue for celebrations, conferences, and weddings, reconnecting its historic rooms with public life. The courtyard remains central.

Nearby memory stones mark the former mausoleum, which no longer survives as an intact structure. The mansion carries traces of aristocratic residence, wartime loss, and renewed use.
