Jókai-kert in Hungary occupies a rocky hillside where terraces, old trees, birds, and literary history meet among winding paths.\
The grounds began as a deserted stone quarry.

In 1853, writer Mór Jókai bought the hillside and planted lindens, maples, walnuts, horse-chestnuts, fruit trees, vines, vegetables, and roses. His gardens became a quiet retreat for reading and writing away from the city. The former villa has disappeared, but a presshouse built from its stones still contains a memorial room with personal belongings. Nearby, Róna József’s statue of Anacreon carries Jókai’s features, while a lion-carved stone bench recalls his favourite seat.

Today, the historic garden forms part of a national nature reserve with conservation offices and an ornithological library. Children’s nature programmes, mineral exhibits, and winding paths bring different kinds of discovery beneath the trees. Birds fill the grounds with song, and some species are rare. Old fruit trees and roses preserve the clearest trace of Jókai’s own gardening.
