The Fővárosi Önkormányzat occupies a monumental Baroque building in Hungary, once known as the Invalidus House. Its original purpose was a hospital for soldiers wounded in Ottoman wars. Archbishop Széchényi founded an ambitious complex designed with courtyards and extensive wings for wounded soldiers. Construction stopped before the full plan took shape, leaving only the western half completed.

The main façade presents a measured rhythm of windows, projecting sections, and monumental gates. A small tower marks the former chapel. That chapel now forms an ornate assembly hall where the city council meets and conducts municipal business. The building later served as a barracks before becoming the city’s administrative headquarters. Its changing functions connect military care, discipline, and civic debate within one surviving Baroque structure. Parts of the complex gave way to a public park and a passageway. The remaining architecture records adaptation while continuing to frame the city’s public life.
