Weinkontor in Bremen is an industrial building from 1951, located in Walle’s Überseestadt near the Europahafen. Its rectangular body shows a visible steel skeleton. Wilhelm Wortmann and Erik Schott designed the building for Reidemeister & Ulrichs, a wine trading company founded in 1831. Two recessed stair towers frame both sides of the building. After the Second World War, Weinkontor formed part of Bremen’s port reconstruction, with five stories supporting wine operations. Its basement rooms handled fermentation, ageing and bottling. The first four floors stored bottles, while the top floor held management and administration offices. Fully glazed staircases face the street side. The façade combines closed fields with window strips and open fields with low parapets. Its low parapets mark the open window fields. The original storage role later disappeared as quality-wine production shifted increasingly towards producers. Wine distribution continued through the changing trade. In Bremen, the building stands under monument protection as an example of post-war industrial construction. Its steel frame preserves the logic of a working port building.
