Villa Ichon stands in Bremen’s Ostertorviertel, near the Wallanlagen, as a building linked with cultural and peace work. Heinrich Depken built it in 1849 in a simple classical style.

Johann Georg Poppe remodelled the building in 1871, giving it a historicist façade, a tower, and a two-storey bay window. Poppe acquired the villa in 1893 and enriched its interiors.

Gold-framed stucco ceilings, wooden-beam ceilings, and a nineteenth-century mosaic floor preserve the villa’s decorative character. A white-and-blue Meissen faience stove shares the ground floor with a marble fireplace.

Arthur Fitger’s wall paintings complement rooms shaped by the villa’s changing owners, including Daniel Schultz and Poppe. The city of Bremen acquired Villa Ichon in 1968 after demolition plans emerged.

Protected monument status followed in 1973, while restoration finished in 1981 with support from builder and patron Klaus Hübotter. Since 1982, an association has maintained the villa for cultural and peace work.

Amnesty International and Bremen Literature House are among the organisations housed there. The villa also awards an annual Culture and Peace Prize.
