Villa Bünemann stands in Bremen as an early twentieth-century classical villa designed by August Abbehusen and Otto Blendermann. Merchant Friedrich Hermann Carl Bünemann commissioned the house. Its architecture combines a triangular pediment above the entrance with an open veranda carried by Doric columns. Six Doric columns support the villa’s open veranda. Above the door, a frieze presents five dancing women and two putti. The sculptural entrance draws attention to the doorway. Bünemann worked as a merchant in the coffee and tobacco trade through Schütte and Bünemann. He sold the villa to new owners in 1935. During the American occupation after the Second World War, the building housed an officers’ casino and American Forces Network headquarters. Later, workers reversed the alterations from that period. Around 2000, the Bremen Construction Industry Association acquired the building. Its documented ownership history includes several changes. Abbehusen and Blendermann also designed the Christuskirche in Woltmershausen and Theater am Goetheplatz. Their Bremen works include several notable architectural landmarks. Villa Bünemann received cultural monument status in 1992, preserving its historical and architectural significance.
