Landgut Holdheim stands in Bremen-Oberneuland as a historic estate with a classical manor house and expansive park. Senator Johann Friedrich Abegg acquired the estate in 1809. He commissioned Lilienthal builder Hinrich Kaars to construct the manor house and Bremen gardener Isaak Altmann to design the park. An avenue of fruit trees became Apfelallee in 1815. The grounds also included a manager’s house, a fish pond, and an iron bridge later moved to another park. Georg Gloystein added stone columns, grape houses, and a vineyard. In 1869, doctor and naturalist Gustav Woldemar Focke introduced rare plants, adding another layer to the park’s recorded history. The estate later housed a children’s recovery home and lung clinic. After the clinic closed in the 1980s, an international Japanese boarding school used the buildings until 1999. Redevelopment in 2004 restored the manor house as apartments and reshaped the park as a public space. The park preserves elements from its early twentieth-century appearance. Landgut Holdheim is now a protected monument.
