Luisenstädtischer Kirchpark lies in Berlin’s Mitte district, where hedges trace the outline of a church that once shaped the site. The quiet park combines greenery with a memorial landscape rooted in Berlin’s religious and civic history.

A wooden Sebastiankirche stood here from 1695 before a stone church replaced it around 1750 and later gained a tower. Renamed Luisenstadt Church in 1802 for Queen Luise, the building was destroyed during a bombing raid in 1945, when more than fifty people died sheltering in its basement. Demolition removed the remaining ruins in 1964, and the area became a memorial park after German reunification. A stele by Nikolaus Bode commemorates the church and people buried in its cemetery, including Carl Gottlieb Svarez, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach and Christoph Friedrich Nicolai.

The hedge layout lets you picture the former building while walking through the present-day park. Its most striking detail is the stone-like outline of the church set within living green borders.
