Unveiled in 1899, the sculpture honours Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch, who lived from 1808 to 1883. He was a jurist and an important figure in the cooperative movement. That movement sought to strengthen the competitiveness of small businesses through cooperation. Originally, bronze figures showed a farmer and blacksmith on one side, and a mother with her adolescent son on the other. The figures disappeared during the Second World War, probably melted down. Construction work removed the monument in 1974, and the Märkisches Museum stored it temporarily. Restoration returned it to Schulze-Delitzsch Platz in 1990.

The broad granite base still anchors the marble speaker at the square. Its empty sides preserve a visible trace of the lost bronze companions.
