Termat Romake preserves Roman bath remains beneath the Aleksandër Moisiu Theatre in Durrës, Albania, an archaeological monument. The baths date from the first and second centuries CE.

Builders placed the theatre on concrete columns, leaving part of the ancient complex protected beneath its modern structure. Archaeologists uncovered the baths during theatre construction.

Earlier layers include private houses, walls, floors, and a possible road from the third century BCE. Roman builders constructed baths above this earlier residential area.

Electromagnetic surveys and geological studies help researchers trace buried structures and understand Durrës’s changing relationship with the Adriatic coast and lagoon. Ancient Durrës was also known historically as Dyrrachium.

The site forms part of wider research mapping the ancient city’s buildings, monuments, urban growth, and archaeological layers. The baths reveal Roman life beneath modern Durrës.

Researchers are studying how houses, public facilities, and streets developed across successive periods in the coastal city. Each surviving wall adds evidence about ancient Durrës.

The protected remains therefore show how a coastal city developed through houses, public baths, theatre, and later buildings. Each layer connects Roman Durrës with an older urban landscape.
