Palau Savassona stands near La Rambla in Barcelona as an eighteenth-century neoclassical mansion. The baron of Savassona began building this family residence after acquiring several properties beside La Rambla in 1776. Its restored façades carry a unified white finish. Painter Francisco Pla, known as El Vigatà, decorated the principal rooms with mythological murals.

After the baron's death, his son completed the façade in 1796. In 1906, Josep Font i Gumà and Josep Maria Jujol adapted the building for Ateneu Barcelonès. That cultural institution has occupied it since then. In 1968, Joan Bassegoda added three floors, eventually used as classrooms for the Ateneu's writing school. The library's murals reappeared during the restoration. The same project renewed the staircase, entrance hall and façades, returning the exterior to a unified white finish.

The former carriage entrance now hosts exhibitions beside a covered staircase. Jujol's modernist lift survives nearby, while the rear garden holds a pond, fountain and geometric flowerbeds. Old palms, lemon trees and medlars rise among sculptures and terracotta figures. On the first floor, the library fills former living rooms beneath El Vigatà's decorated ceilings. Its entrance bears Frederic Amat's mural, La porta dels lectors. Authorities declared the building a historic-artistic monument in 1981.
