Mercat de Sant Josep - La Boqueria is a public market in Barcelona’s Ciutat Vella, just off La Rambla. Most people in Barcelona call this market La Boqueria. Its open layout and distinctive metal roof frame stalls filled with fresh food. The public market is wheelchair accessible for visitors.

A market stood near the old city gate in 1217, when sellers traded meat from temporary tables. By 1470, it was known as Mercadi Bornet, mainly a pig market. Authorities recognised it in 1826, then approved a permanent structure in 1835. Construction began in 1840 under architect Mas Vilá, before the final building was inaugurated in 1853. A fish section arrived in 1911, followed by the metal roof in 1914.

Today, third- and fourth-generation sellers present vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, chocolate, and Catalan specialities. El Quim de la Boqueria serves dishes at a counter. The former Convent of Saint Joseph gives the market its full name. Among the foods associated with its counters are jamón ibérico, baby squid, and Catalan cream.
