Centre Cívic Pati Llimona occupies the historic Palau Marc or Gualbes in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter. A small open square called Pati d’en Llimona leads beneath a lowered semicircular stone arch. The building combines a ground floor, main floor, and first floor around an irregular L-shaped plan. Three pillars support the entrance gallery, whose carved corbels show human busts and acanthus leaves.

The Gothic mansion began in the fourteenth century above part of a Roman wall and one of its towers. Later owners added wings, a courtyard gallery, a chapel, and new construction reaching the nearby street. Restoration work uncovered a pedestrian passage connected to the ancient Roman decuman gate. Exhibition rooms, archaeological areas, photography labs, digital workshops, and community spaces now occupy the historic interiors.

Look for the ground-floor remains of Barcino’s Porta de Mar and possible first-century women’s baths. A medieval beamed ceiling preserves polychrome geometric patterns and painted noble family crests. In the Sala Joan Maragall, mural paintings and heraldic decoration survive beneath later coverings. Roman masonry also remains visible in the Maria Aurèlia Capmany hall and the elevator shaft.
