Khao San Road runs through central Bangkok, Thailand, as a lively street shaped by travel, food, shopping, and nightlife. Its 410 metres bring together budget rooms, three-star hotels, shops, bars, and an international crowd.

Built in 1892 during Rama V’s reign, the street reflects Bangkok’s changing urban life. Its name means “milled rice,” although historical records suggest rice trading did not begin here. Coaches serve Thai destinations, while agencies arrange trips to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

By evening, music, dancing, food stalls, local fruit, clothes, handicrafts, and barbecued insects fill the scene. Wat Chana Songkram stands nearby, alongside an Islamic community with small mosques. Songkran in April turns the street into a huge water fight, adding spectacle to its already loud evenings.
