Oberer Gütersteiner Wasserfall lies near Bad Urach in the Maisental valley, a side valley of the Erms. About 1.5 kilometres northwest of Uracher Wasserfall, its water descends through a protected forest landscape.

An artificial basin divides the cascade: the upper stream trickles across tuff stones, then crosses a hiking path and drops over moss-covered limestone. Dissolved limestone from a spring formed a sinter terrace about 25 metres wide and 125 metres long, while earlier tuff extraction reduced its upper section. Below the terrace break, new limestone tuff continues to grow as the water travels towards the Brühlbach.

Fountain mosses and hart's-tongue fern thrive in the damp surroundings. Fire salamander larvae live in the small basin beneath the upper cascade.
