ZNFG Kraftwerk Singold stands in Augsburg’s Göggingen district, on the grounds of Amann & Söhne GmbH & Co KG. The single-storey building has plastered walls, a rectangular plan, and a gabled roof. Round-arched windows carry decorative cast-iron bars and etched ornamental glass, while the former roof lantern is gone. The Singold was the mill stream behind Göggingen’s industrial growth.

Construction began in 1886, and the plant entered service in 1887 for the Zwirnerei und Nähfadenfabrik Göggingen. Gears and belts first transferred water power to factory machines. The later conversion enabled electricity generation, and a vertical Francis turbine powered equipment for the factory looms. The plant ceased operation during the 1970s, after decades of industrial service.

Renovation in 2006 restored the vertical Francis turbine and installed a new generator for the hydropower system. The Augsburg water management system is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and this plant forms part of it. Private ownership generally keeps the building closed, while the Schorch generator recalls the Singold’s industrial role.
