Kleiner Wasserturm stands at the Rotes Tor in Augsburg, within a historic waterworks complex. Its four-storey square base supports a two-storey hexagonal upper section and a domed roof. The tower rises above foundations from a medieval defensive tower.

Built in 1470, it joined a water-lifting system that supplied Augsburg’s drinking water from the fifteenth century. Extensions followed in 1559 and 1672, while a 1744 spiral staircase remains inside. Waterwheels lifted water because Augsburg stood about twelve metres above the Lech valley.

The lower level connects with an aqueduct carrying water from the Brunnenbach and the Lochbach. The neighbouring Großer Wasserturm links through a passageway, and both towers served Augsburg’s water supply for roughly four and a half centuries. Museums, open-air stages and the UNESCO-listed waterworks now occupy the surrounding cultural park.
