Oudaan rises in Antwerp as a modernist tower designed by architect Renaat Braem. Jul De Roover and Maxime Wynants also contributed to its design.

Planning began around 1950, when Mayor Lode Craeybeckx sought a large administrative centre for the city. The tower formed the main part of that plan.

Construction began in 1958, and Antwerp police services later gave the building its name, Politietoren, or Police Tower. Lower office blocks were planned but never built.

The empty space later gained De Bijenkorf, a shopping centre around the tower. An SBUAM architecture prize recognised Oudaan in 1965, while monument protection followed in 2002.

Kavka brought concerts, events and youth activities to the building, encouraging participation in creative and technical work. Outdoor advertising also used the tower’s exterior.

One campaign marked a television series release with pink guards and large inflatables across the tower. Residential apartments have been discussed as a possible future use.
