Heilige-Familiekerk stands in Hoboken, a district of Antwerp, beside Technical Institute Don Bosco and surrounding school buildings. Its trapezoidal concrete form, flat roof, and open bell tower present a clear example of postwar Brutalist church architecture.

The parish began in 1944 under the care of the Salesians of Don Bosco, using a former bakery, an institute chapel, and later a girls’ school before this building rose in 1968 and 1969. Architect Adrien Bressers shaped the interior around a central altar, while yellowish granito flooring, hand-formed brick walls, and a sawtooth ceiling create its distinctive setting. Rough concrete frames colourful figurative windows by Achiel and Theo Meersman, alongside abstract glass-in-concrete works by Lionel Holvoet.

Three bells hang in the separate tower beneath a cross, while Meersman’s windows cover the upper west and south walls. Together with Holvoet’s glasswork in the choir, entrance, and confessional area, they turn the heavy exterior into an interior filled with coloured light.
