In Amsterdam, Zigeunermonument - Hel en Vuur stands as a bronze memorial devoted to Roma and Sinti victims. Heleen Levano shaped the bronze work in 1978. A man, a woman and two children flee rising flames, creating a stark image of danger and persecution. The sculpture rises three and a half metres above a brick pedestal.

The monument commemorates millions of Roma and Sinti murdered during the Second World War and connects their history with Porajmos. Stichting ROM later gave the monument to Amsterdam. Koko Petalo unveiled the work, which became the first monument specifically dedicated to Roma and Sinti Holocaust victims after Vledder's boulder.

A Roma and Sinti prayer for the dead appears on the pedestal in Romani. Its words ask for a path into new life and release from sorrow. Annual remembrance ceremonies bring Roma and Sinti communities together for those killed at Auschwitz in 1944.
